Saturday was a horrible wet and windy day, but thankfully the kind Firefighters at St Austell firestation allowed us to decorate our float in the station so we were nice and dry.
We spent from 9:30am until 4:30pm decorating the float and safely arrived at St Austell College at 5pm, with our lorry lit up and sparkling with a Christmas theme, as well as all volunteers including Nikki and Leon’s Dog Molly dressed up in Christmas outfits.
We were then judged whilst waiting for the procession to begin, dancing and singing along to Christmas music. The procession started at 6pm through St Austell Town with Tanya’s Courage volunteers waving, singing, dancing and handing out pens and leaflets. Unfortunately we had a little technical problem with the Generator so our lights and music stopped working but we didnt let that stop us from having fun, luckily we soon sorted the problem and had lights and music back within 10 minutes!
Once we hit the Council offices, the end of the parade, we all had a group hug and waited for the results. We then stood in anticipation whilst Sheila Vanloo from Radio St Austell Bay was announcing the winner of our category, when she announced it was us, we all cheered as Iris went to collect our Trophy.
Once we finished we took a long diverted route back to the firestation with lights on and music playing cheering all the way home, to take all the decorations off the float.
We would like to thank everyone who was involved in this event, as it was hard work, but so worth it. Everyone involved had such a great time and we look forward to the next carnival.
Get your thinking caps on and let us know any ideas for our next theme!!

It was fantastic, we had a scream! Many thanks to everyone involved including the judges for giving us 1st prize! I was very proud to head such a fabulous team!
